DuPont Launches New Czech Republic PVB Plant

Holesov, Czech Republic is the location for DuPont chemical company's new plant for producing Butacite G. Butacite G is DuPont's polyvinyl butyral (PVB) safety interlayers for use in laminated glass. It is manufactured from 100% post-industrial recycled materials and is used in vehicle windshields and to protect photovoltaic solar cells. Sona Krausova, DuPont's Czech division lead, stated, "This new production facility for Butacite G contributes to the economic development of the area and its central location will enable efficient distribution of product throughout Europe."

Since DuPont's Butacite G is made entirely from recycled materials, it will further DuPont's stated goal of developing more environmentally sustainable products. William J. Harvey, President of DuPont Packaging and Industrial Polymers, said, "This investment demonstrates DuPont's focus on Central and Eastern Europe and supports our commitment to deliver science-based innovations and sustainable solutions for our customers. The patented technology used at this facility enables product waste to be recycled and provides value through its reuse in safety glass interlayers made of 100 percent recycled material."

S&P Upgrades PVB Maker Solutia Inc.

The credit rating of Solutia Inc. has been upgraded recently by Standard & Poor's. It has been increased from BB- to BB. This points to a more stable outlook for the maker of Saflex polyvinyl butyral (PVB) technology. Furthermore, the company's senior secured credit rating went to BB+ from BB- and its senior unsecured notes due 2017 and 2020 were upgraded from a BB- to a B+.

Guangzhou TV building to use Southwall's XIR film

China’s Guangzhou TV building which is currently under construction will use XIR film from Southwall Technologies, Inc. XIR film is sold as a heat reflective, energy efficient laminated glass. It is designed to be laminated with tempered clear glass or combined with tinted PVB (Polyvinyl Butyral).
